A Survey of Amalgam Restoration Failures.

Abstract
This survey is concerned with 54 cases of amalgam failures taken from extracted teeth. An analysis of the failures of amalgam and the causes for failures present the following findings.
1. It has been noted that the upper third molars and first molars are most frequently failures of amalgam restorations, the lower third molars are next in order, while the lower first and second bicuspids are the least number of causes.
2. Forty-six per. cent of all failures were the two-surface amalgams and it was might be the greatest number for the failure of amalgam restorations.
3. Analysis of 54 cases amalgam failures shows the hightest failures of restoration for the caries recurrence (40.7iband tarnish and corrosion (18.5%). I
4. It has shown that 48.1 per cent ¢¥of all amalgam failures may be ¢¥attributed to violation of the fundamental principles of amalgam cavity preparation, while 51.8 per cent were attributed to faulty manipulation of the amalgam.
